“A house without a dog is like a body without a heart.”
At the end of 2005 we went together for the first time to the Winner Show in Amsterdam to take a good look at the different breeds. Although we both love dogs, we had very different ideas about the type of dog we wanted by our side. One again went for his childhood love, the dachshund. The other was crazy about greyhounds.
You couldn't imagine a more diverse combination...
Or until... we saw the Irish Setters. With a little imagination, the Setter identifies within himself the outward appearances of a dachshund and whippet. Our hearts were ultimately stolen by their cheerfulness, the incessant wagging tail, but certainly also their noble appearance. |
However, we lived in the center of Amsterdam, on the third floor with steep stairs... a hunting dog was not an ideal choice for us... But as is often the case, these kinds of things keep playing in the back of your mind and unconsciously our desire for an Irish dog grew. Setter. A year later, we went to the Winner Show again and again our hearts beat faster at the sight of the Irish, all our arguments for not getting a dog melted like snow in the sun. When one of those belligerents even crawled onto our lap, amid all the noise of the largest dog show in the Netherlands, we were sold! There we were, madly in love with those red devils. Not knowing that this would be the start of a whole new life.... |
